Questions Relating to Ongoing Education Courses
Q: What do you display on your ongoing training page?
A: We display factual information on the title of the course(s)/seminar, the date, and discount to REPs individuals. We can also display an early bird cut off date, and a brief description on what the course is, if the title doesn't explain it (e.g. "Spin Workshop" or "Yoga Basics Seminar"). This description is not for "selling" the course, but for simply giving enough information for individuals to then click on your web site and see detailed information there.
We also display contact information, including email and phone (if you wish). We also provide a link to your web site if requested. As an independent organisation that reviews many different courses it is not appropriate for REPs to make comment on how "good or great" a course is - we leave that to you (and your web page). All information on the REPs web site is purely informational - and not written with a marketing spin.
REPs Structure
Who owns REPs ?
REPs is a non profit organisation owned by FitnessNZ (which is also non profit). REPs operates independantly, and is governed by a board of directors.
Does REPs have any affiliations to any education/training provider or exercise facilities ?
No. REPs is totally independent to any education/training providers and exercise facilities. All training providers and facilities have equal input into REPs through the various feedback processes we have in place. To ensure REPs remains totally independent, REPs will never undertake training of any kind, nor will it ever operate any exercise facilities.
General Questions
What are the fees ?
All fees are listed on the relevant application form. For Education providers, the various REPs charges are directly related to the cost of processing the applications. As all applications by education providers involve independent verification by an industry expert, this is part of the cost of applying to REPs to have a full course, or ongoing education program, registered.
Are the registration fees annual fees ?
A: For ongoing education courses fees are annual. For courses that train people to full REPs standards the fees are every two years.
REPs is an independent organisation with the sole purpose of running and marketing the registration system. As such it needs money to do this, the fees reflects this. The various fees REPs charges are in direct proportion to the costs to REPs. As a non profit organisation REPs only charges what is needed to operate, no one makes a 'profit' from REPs activities. As REPs is not involved in training of any kind it has no vested interest in any particular training provider, nor in any facility.
How is Skills Active (formally Sfrito) involved in REPs ?
Up until 2008, Skills Active (then called Sfrito) was a part owner of REPs. Now that REPs is significantly well established Skills Active no longer has any ownership of REPs, and now works cooperatively with REPs on matters concerning the training requirements of the industry. The Skills Active National Certificates in Fitness, when provided through Skills Active in the workplace, are recognised by REPs as meeting the standard for REPs registration.
Our education institution also runs a gym/fitness centre - does it need to register separately ?
Yes. The process for registration as an education provider is reviewing the courses only, not any facility you may have. In most cases we recommend that you register your gym/fitness centres as a Registered Exercise Facility, unless the only use of the gym/fitness centre is for students of your course. For more details on the becoming a Registered Exercise Facility, see the registration page.
